2023 Ford Escape vs. 2023 Chevrolet Equinox

When you’re searching for your next SUV for sale in Morrilton, AR, it pays to compare the 2023 Ford Escape and the Chevrolet Equinox. It can be difficult to find the perfect vehicle that meets all your needs, so let’s take a closer look at these compact SUVs and find the vehicle that deserves to be in your driveway.

Updates for 2023

The Ford Escape updated its front end for the 2023 model year. The grille is wider and features the brand's avoid logo. The side view also received an update with a host of new wheel designs. The Escape removed the S, SE, SEL, and Titanium from the lineup. All models migrated from Sync 3 to Sync 4 for infotainment needs, and an 8.0-inch digital gauge display is also standard in all the models.

The Chevrolet Equinox gained a 5-horsepower boost for 2023, which now generates 175 horsepower. Three fresh new paint colors are available, and the old vacuum-boosted brakes were replaced for an electronically assisted arrangement.

Interior

The Escape is spacious and comfortable wherever you sit in the two-row SUV. In the Escape, textured cloth seats are standard, but in the Platinum model, faux-leather seating is standard. There is also plenty of cargo space behind the rear seats and if you need more space the rear seats fold down. An 8.0-inch infotainment system is standard, but a 13.2-inch touchscreen is available in higher trims. The Escape will also update its software by itself with over-the-air features.

Critics found that the Equinox was boring with the use of plastic materials in the cabin, and the cargo area was cramped. If you want more available features you have to look into the higher trim levels. A 7.0-inch touchscreen is standard.

Performance

The Escape has a 181-horsepower turbocharged 1.5-liter 3-cylinder engine that is available with either front- or all-wheel drive. The Escape also offers two hybrids. The gasoline engines are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and the hybrids are paired with a continuously variable transmission. The base model engine gets 27 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. The Escape is a reliable SUV that is smooth with adequate acceleration.

The Equinox didn’t impress with its lone engine and mediocre transmission and when more power is needed it feels inadequate. The SUV's fuel economy is less than the Escape, getting 26 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. Critics found that the ride can be harsh at times and rough roads can be responsible for an unpleasant cabin experience. The six-speed automatic transmission can also be hesitant to downshift.
